Summertime is time to spread the news

This summer has been much like summers past around here at the BSU. Less student traffic around the building but more focused attention to reaching new students. Our intern, Whit Stewart came up with a great looking brochure to send out to new students this summer. We decided early on that we wanted to make a good first impression with all new students and the best way to do that was to do a full color brochure that explained what we do here at BSU and what Survival Weekend is all about.

These days of contacting students has changed. I remember back 5 to 10 years ago how we would put a team together to go to Jackson to the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board to call EVERY new student. The university would give us access to every new students number so we would work hard at calling all of the new students. These last few years have changed. We no longer have access to those numbers so we have to work at new ways to reach out to students. Fortunately, we do have access to the addresses of every new student so we mail them a brochure. We also have access to email addresses and that helps to but if you are familiar with students these days email isn't as popular as it used to be. So, we're planning on using Facebook to reach more students as well.

From what I've learned there isn't just one way to reach new students over the summer. You have to try many ways (emails, brochures, phone calls, facebook, etc.) to reach out.

As we come to the end of the summer, I know there are students still wrestling whether to come to Survival Weekend or not. Would you pray for all new students coming to Southern Miss? Would you pray for us as we try to reach out in the coming weeks?

Thank you for your support of the ministry of the USM BSU!
